​Dr Rachael Taylor

Audiologist and Research Fellow, The University of Auckland, Auckland, NZ

Rachael is an audiologist and Research Fellow from the University of Auckland. A former graduate of the Master of Audiology program, Rachael travelled to the United Kingdom in 2004 to pursue her interest in clinical neuro-otology and vestibular assessment. She has 16 years clinical experience in neuro-otology having worked both in New Zealand and abroad. Rachael completed her PhD in 2015 at the University of Sydney under the supervision of Professor Michael Halmagyi and Associate Professor Miriam Welgampola.  During her PhD, she applied new, non-invasive vestibular tests in several commonly encountered vestibular disorders. Her work identified differences in receptor and neural pathway involvement, leading to the establishment of diagnostic profiles. 

Rachael joined the University of Auckland in 2018 as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to study vestibular and oculomotor function following traumatic brain injury. She is a member of the University of Auckland Neurogenetics Research Clinic and works part-time at the New Zealand Dizziness and Balance Centre. Her research has led to 33 journal publications and two book chapters in vestibular function and disorders of the vestibular system. Her research interests include the interaction between vestibular function and hearing, and the relationship between vestibular, oculomotor and brain function in cerebellar disorders.
