Dr Gavin (Ru) Scott DouglasORL Specialist, Auckland, NZ
Principal iwi is Arawa Graduate of the University of Otago (1964-68) After completing an ORL residency at the UBC, Vancouver, BC (1971-75), Ru became a Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Surgeons. A Paediatric ORL Fellowship followed at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital (1975-76).
Ru embarked as a consultant in 1978 at Auckland Public, Mater and Princess Mary Hospitals, and the Dilworth Clinic. Then, between 1991-06, he was a consultant at Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland, where after that time, he became an Honorary Paediatric ORL Specialist |
Since 2006, Ru has become an assessor for ACC and private NZ insurance companies. He is a member of the NZSOHNS, the ANZSPO, the Maori Medical Practitioners Association, and the Polynesian Society (University of Auckland).
Ru was President of the Northern Division of the NZSOHNS (1999), President of the NZ Medical Association – Auckland Division (1998), and a member of the NZ Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal (1999-2004).
In 2013, Ru was the James Hardie Neil Speaker for the NZSOHNS.
In 2018, the RACS awarded him with the Maori Health Medal for contributions to Maori health advocacy and health outcomes in NZ.
