Stephen Toynton is an Otologist and Paediatric ORL working in Hawke’s Bay. He has undertaken sub-specialty training in London at St. Thomas’s and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, also spending a year in lab research at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital. He was formerly a council member of both British Societies of ORL-HNS (ENT-UK) and Paediatric ORL (BAPO), and also Chairman of training for the UK Peninsular Deanery. After 16 yrs as a consultant at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, (Peninsular Medical School) UK, he moved to Hawke’s Bay, seven years ago. He has been a reviewer for Clinical Otolaryngology, and a protocol assessor for both the Cochrane Collaboration and the Czech Health Research Council. Clinical and research interests have included ototoxicity in phase 1 trials, temporal bone trauma, barotrauma, stapes surgery, chronic ear disease in Maori and Pasifica, and more recently Eustachian tube dilation procedures.
